Sara Helvey MD, MBA Chief Medical Information Officer at Excelera. She is an accomplished leader in healthcare with over fifteen years of experience in the healthcare industry and over eight years of experience as a physician executive and CMIO. She is an expert in healthcare operations, change management, and process improvement. Additionally, she has had a pivotal role in the completion of dozens of successful implementation projects. Dr. Helvey possesses exemplary skills in communication and presentation as well as comprehensive knowledge of multiple Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. Dr. Helvey has overseen strategic planning and execution of Epic enterprise and community connect implementations in various institutions ranging from academic settings to critical access hospitals.
Dr. Helvey has facilitated customization of provider workspaces for over one thousand providers and her guides to customization have been adopted as standard training by institutions. She has managed several large EMR installs for hospital systems spanning several states including at NYU Langone (including Belleview and the Hospital for Special Surgery),An affiliate of Johns Hopkins (Sibley hospital),Providence Health systems, PeaceHealth ,UCLA,UCSF,UMASS (Partners), Brigham and Women’s (Partners),Mount Sinai in NYC, Northshore, NYS H + H (the largest public health system in the US), Cook Children’s in Dallas, Medstar (Washington, University hospitals), INOVA, Sutter, and John Muir.
Dr. Helvey has led engagements in physician proficiency assessments, training plan development, and overall build design. She has been a leading participant in creating system-wide clinical content for an entire hospital system including order sets and documentation. Dr. Helvey has also collaborated with health system clinical leadership to identify gaps in process in order to improve efficiency and maximize patient safety and care. She has developed implementation strategies for system-wide improvement in quality metrics in MIPS/MACRA reporting.
Dr. Helvey holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kansas State University, an MBA from the University of Phoenix and an MD from Kansas University School of Medicine.
