Dr. Sanjay Patil, MD

Dr. Sanjay Patil Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Excelera Group.; Chief Executive Officer and President of Golden State Medicare Health Plan. He is a seasoned healthcare leader with over two decades of experience in clinical practice and having rapidly established health care information technologies around health care delivery systems, and developed and grown health insurance plans and other risk bearing organizations. He has led and successfully built, operated and managed the turnaround of healthcare entities leading to successful exits. He was also an original proponent of AI through his published research and clinical trial interest focused on artificial intelligence machine learning in 1999 to identify patients at risk for adverse clinical events, and his work with hospital readmission reduction programs has used predictive models, biometric monitoring, and EHR workflow/clinical decision support to significantly lower heart failure readmissions.
Dr. Patil served as Chief Medical Informatics Officer and Chief Transformation Officer at Mercy Health where he managed complex data governance programs, including aggregation and analytics. Mercy Health is a non-profit health care provider and hospital system based in Janesville, Wisconsin. It is a regional health care system with over 85 facilities serving a total of 50 communities throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois with 4000 employees. Earlier in his career, Dr. Patil was the CEO of Cardiologist Associates where, in addition to his clinical practice, he managed 23 physicians before successfully selling the practice for over $145 million.
As founder, CEO and Chairman of the Excelera Group, Dr. Patil leads this next generation healthcare insurance technology company that leverages data such as advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and genomic technology to improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Prior to founding Excelera, Dr. Patil founded and commercialized Care Connectors, a healthcare data and resource liquidity technology company. As CEO, he oversaw the development and distribution of the company’s interoperability products and services, which included EMR data exchange, HIE capabilities, and predictive modeling. Dr. Patil is a board-certified cardiologist with an M.D. from MR Medical College in India. He earned an M.S. in clinical research design and biostatics from the University of Michigan and an M.A. in health information technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a cardiology fellow at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
